Heinz Schaettler

Full Professor
Professor Schaettler has a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics from Rutgers University and, after holding a one year postdoctoral position at the University of California in Davis, joined the faculty of the Department of Systems Science and Mathematics at Washington University in St. Louis in 1987.
Research In Professor Schaettler's research methodologies from dynamical systems theory and optimal control are applied to the analysis of mathematical models motivated by practical problems. In his current research, done jointly with U. Ledzewicz, he is focused on various models that describe selected aspects of cancer treatments such as administration of chemotherapeutic agents in the presence of tumor heterogeneity, angiogenic signaling or tumor immune system interactions. In the past, he has worked on models arising in physics (subatomic cooling), economics (principal-agent problem), power systems (differential-algebraic models for voltage stability problems), electronics (minimization of base transit time in HBT's) and more.
