The Magnetic and Information Science Center (MISC) is an research institution within the Department of Electrical and System Engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Washington University in St.Louis. Founded in 1992, MISC is an interdisciplinary theoretical and experimental center focusing on fundamental recording physics and information science. The research effort comprises four principal projects:
  • Computational analysis/modeling
  • Magnetic thin film transducers and thermal analysis
  • Medium noise studies
  • Physically-based information science for magnetic recording
At Washington University, MISC has established, besides the research, a program in education as a key ingredient of its effort. MISC's effort has created a principal nucleus in the exciting field of information storage technology in the central United States. Please see "Introduction to MISC" for more information on MISC's interesting background and exciting research projects. Interested readers are welcome to contact Dr. Ronald Indeck, Director of MISC, via electronic-mail at rsi@ee.wustl.edu to arrange for a tour of MISC.
