  • Dr. Arye Nehorai receives the 2006 Technical Achievement Award "for fundamental contributions to sensor array processing with applications to radar, sonar, biomedicine, and the environment," from the IEEE Signal Processing Society. This Award is the highest recognition for technical contributions within the scope of the IEEE Signal Processing Society, which has about 20,000 members worldwide. Dr. Nehorai accepted his award at the Society Awards Ceremony, during the 32nd International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP), Honolulu, April 15-20, 2007.   • Dr. Martin Hurtado (who got the PhD with Dr. Nehorai at WUSTL in 2007) accepted an offer to become Research Scientist in the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research of Argentina at the National University of La Plata, starting January 2009.
  • Dr. Bertand Hochwald (who got the PhD with Dr. Nehorai at Yale in 1995) became Fellow of the IEEE in 2007.
  • Dr. Tong Zhao (who got the DSc with Dr. Nehorai at WUSTL in 2006) accepted an offer to become Research Engineer in the GE Global Research Center at Shanghai, China, in December 2007.
  • Dr. Nannan Cao (who got the PhD with Dr. Nehorai at WUSTL in 2007) accepted an offer to become Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of California, Davis, in November 2007.
  • Dr. Zhi Liu (who got the PhD with Dr. Nehorai at WUSTL in 2007) accepted an offer to become Research Engineer in OSIsoft, San Leandro, California.
  • Dr. Jian Wang (who got the PhD with Dr. Nehorai at WUSTL in 2006) accepted an offer to become Senior Associate in Lehmann Brothers, in August 2007.
  • Dr. Aleksandar Dogandzic (who got the PhD with Dr. Nehorai at UIC in 2001) was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University.
  • Dr. Gang Shi (who got the DSc with Dr. Nehorai at WUSTL in 2006) accepted an offer to become Research Instructor in the Division of Biostatistics at Washington School of Medicine, starting July 2007.
  • Pinaki Sarder was selected to participate in the Imaging Sciences Pathway program of WU.
  • Daniela Donno (who got her master's degree with Dr. Nehorai at UIC in 2005) won the Student Paper Contest of ICASSP 2006, see http://www.icassp2006.org/SPCWinners.asp. The paper (based on Daniela's master's thesis) is titled "Seismic velocity/polarization estimation and polarized wavefield separation," by Daniela Donno, Arye Nehorai, and Umberto Spagnolini.
  • Dr. Aleksandar Dogandzic (who got the PhD with Dr. Nehorai at UIC in 2001) was selected to receive the Litton Assistant Professorship for 2006-2007.
  • Dr. Aleksandar Dogandzic received the prestigious NSF Career award.
  • Dr. David Gutierrez (who got the PhD with Dr. Nehorai at UIC in 2005) moved to his new faculty position of associate professor at the new Medical Sciences Unit of the Center of Research and Advanced Studies (CINVESTAV) of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN). The unit is located in Monterrey, Mexico.
  • Dr. I. Samil Yetik (who got the PhD with Dr. Nehorai at UIC in 2004) accepted the offer of a faculty position at the assistant professor level from IIT. His research area will be medical imaging with emphasis on tomographic techniques. Samil will join the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Medical Imaging Research Center.
  • Heeralal Choudhary (who got his Master's with Dr. Nehorai in Spring 2006) accepted an investment position with the hedge fund division of UBS, one of the world's top financial institutions. He works with Dr. Malcolm Hawkes, who received the PhD with Dr. Nehorai at Yale University in 2000.
